A while back, I did a post on dictator fashion and I don’t know how I let the fashion genius of Colonel Gaddafi slip through the cracks. But let’s face it, this diva needs his own post. We can’t just lump him in with Castro, Kim Jong Il and AhmedIKnowI’mBadBadRealBad. Those chumps look like amateurs compared to Gaddafi.
His combination of military garb with draped fabric and designer sunglasses gives off a vibe of crazy leader playing dress up and frankly, I like it.
Look at when he met Obama. You can tell Barack’s thinking ‘who’s the pretty lady in the frock?’

Or how about when he met British Prime Minister Gordon Brown?

Brown is unsure if he’s meeting a world leader or at the wax museum.
If you still doubt Gaddafi’s style credentials, let’s take a look at how he styles his security team:

BAM! Ladies, would we not all work a security job if we got that uniform? Stylin’!
So, Gaddafi, the world may think you’re a crazy bastard, but I salute your unparalleled fashion stylings to the fullest. Maybe when you bring out your spring/summer 2010 line, they’ll all understand your genius.

You better WORK it Gaddafi!

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the world is going crazy. North Korea wants to frazzle everyone and if they don’t get to it first, Ahmadinejad seems to have covered all bases.
One thing I have observed about these men in power, particularly dictators, is that the harsher the regime, the more casual the clothes. What’s up with that?
Look at Castro up there, conducting a meeting in his tracksuit. If that ain’t the definition of not giving a shit, I don’t know what is. It’s like every day is casual friday. I mean, I know he was a revolutionary and all, but it’s not like he ever dressed up for leadership. He was rocking fatigues back in the day. Hardly uncomfortable. If he’s gonna go with a tracksuit now, I think they should be standard issue for all Cuban politicians. They should always be prepared, lest an international baseball game is called, someone is always ready to bat.
Then there’s Kim Jong Il. Check out his get up:

It’s like he’s tried to dress it up, but it’s still a tracksuit for all intents and purposes. I would love to see the footwear. I bet he wears Reeboks. Where does he get these outfits? I don’t know why I pluralised that, I’ve never seen him wear anything else, clearly this is all he owns. It must be custom made. I hope when he turns around he has ‘Kim Jong Il’ and the number ’1′ embroidered on the back.
Say want you want about this crazy bastard. You can’t tell me he isn’t rocking the crap out of these glasses:

And then there’s Ahmadinejad. Is it too much to ask for the world’s crazy dictators to throw on a tie? At least he managed to put on an actual shirt. But the top button is always undone and there’s never a suit jacket, just some thing that makes him look like a market trader. To see him wearing this and doing De Niro impressions, you’d think he hasn’t a care in the world.

So there you have it folks. The lesson is contrary to everything we’ve been taught. If you want a position of power, dress down.
As I type this, I’m in a wife beater and panties. World domination is just around the corner.
