Upper Street Shoes: The Bangs Ballet Flat
When you’re as crazy about footwear as I am and someone asks you if you’d like to design your own shoes, it’s hard not to jump up and down on your bed like an excited teenager. At the end of last year, that’s exactly what happened to me when Upper Street Shoes invited me to do just that. Naturally, everyone imagined I’d go for a killer pair of heels, but I decided, with all the running I’m doing, what I really need for my rest days is a sensible pair of ballet flats (what is happening to me?!). Wanna see ‘em? Check them out below.
I loved the process of designing my own shoe. It kind of reminded me of the Nike iD experience. The ballet flat came up on the screen and I customised it from fabrics to colours. Thank goodness the people at Upper Street are patient because my gosh, with the range of choice, it can take a girl a while.
I decided to go for a classic navy suede ballet flat with snakeskin toe and heel caps and silver piping accent. I love navy as a neutral colour and the contrast of textures with suede and snakeskin makes them just that little bit different. What’s great about this process is that I don’t think anyone’s ever been in a shoe shop, trying shoes on and thought ‘I’d like them if the heel was a bit different or they were a different colour’. With this, you can quite literally make your dream pair of shoes.
It took six weeks for them to be made and delivered and Upper Street kept in touch with me, emailing me every now and then to let me know what was going on with my order. If they weren’t quite right, they would fix them. All in all, it’s a great service and really friendly company. Maybe next time I’ll treat myself to some heels.
