Jeez woman you’re amaze, and such an inspiration. I’ve been in training for about 2 months now and I too have pretty started from couch. All your tweets and posts have really helped keeping me on track, I’m about to head out in the rain right now for a 7k when before I watched your video I was going just going to carry on pottering around my flat.
I totally agree, it’s as much as a metal strength to keep going as it a physical one and striving to beat my time and distance each run is what keeps me going. And my god does it feel good when you do beat yourself.

I hope you really really were as much of a coach potato as you say you were…’cos I must have 30 odd years on you and am practically always sitting down (car/desk/couch/chair/bed) but watching that just now has got me thinking ‘maybe….maybe…’
Well, it seems like running is definitely your thing now – sort of pleased for you, but sort of not as your blog is not half as interesting as it used to be – at least for a non-runner.
Bangs, I think you can rest easy in the knowledge that for every non-runner who finds your blog half as interesting, there is a runner who finds it TWICE as interesting. And on top of being interesting, it’s inspirational. You are my go-to girl when I need to get motivated to get my trainers on and get out the door. Thank you. Seriously.
This video really has given me the inspiration I needed to get back to running. I’d never ran before but earlier this year I decided I would train myself up to do a 5k charity run. I’d been training on a treadmill and was completely unprepared for the actual run. I found your blog last week and have been reading the running posts, and plan to go and get myself some proper kit and start running again. Thanks x

I went back to running after 2 years out having babies and I’ll never forget my first Parkrun back after all that time. It was the hardest run I’ve ever done, even having been a runner as a teenager, but that sense of achievement I felt afterwards was amazing.
Since then it has got easier, with a few troughs along the way. I can’t describe to people the way running makes me feel, they all think I’m mental. I think for that short while after a run I feel slightly invincible, definitely empowered and so so happy. Thinking about rejoining an athletics club or entering a half marathon so I’m definitely getting there in confidence.
Looking forward to more updates. You are inspiring people who would never have considered running before to give it a bash. The pain is temporary, once you’ve finished no-one can take that away from you!
Good luck with your upcoming races. I don’t think I’d have started running if it wasn’t for your posting about it. I always felt like it was something that I just “couldn’t” do. So not true!
Interesting and good to read about the parallels of running to real life. I’ve wanted to stop at some point in every race I’ve ever run – 16 miles, a full marathon and the lil’ parkruns I’ve done. The last race I ran was a parkrun, and I did stop at half time for a water break, with the intention of not carrying on. But something inside me drove me to finish, and I was so proud I did. If only it was as easy to apply this to real life – your mantra might make it simpler to do so!
