The First Crush Mixtape

The First Crush Mixtape by bangsandabun

Yesterday, I put a call out on Twitter for people to give me a theme for today’s mixtape. The lovely Kwamster came up with ‘First Crush’ – so here it is.

Everyone can relate to the high school crush song of Troop.

If you haven’t gazed out a window on a rainy day, thinking of your crush while listening to Sweet Thing by Chaka Khan, frankly, you haven’t lived.

When I first heard ‘Why Don’t We Fall in Love’ by Amerie, I played it on a loop consistently hoping the object of my affection would hear it and get the hint.

‘Just Friends’ by Amy Winehouse is thrown in there because crackhead crushes need love too.

Aretha speaks to my soul with ‘Never Loved a Man’ – seriously, this song reaches me on different levels altogether. Who hasn’t felt this way?

I love the innocence of the DeBarge song.

Barry White is the soundtrack of my life. You know I listen to this song when I think of Idris.

‘It’s a Love Thing’ by The Whispers just makes me frikkin’ happy. Seriously, listen to that and try not to crack a smile.

‘Lovergirl’ by Teena Marie is like, the original crush song.

And Bootsie Collins because, well, not all our thoughts about our crushes involve rainbows and unicorns. Sometimes you just want that sweet lovin’ and who better to get that point across than Bootsie?
